Overcome the Challenges of Your Online Business Growth
So now you’ve taken the plunge. You’ve started your online business. And for a while, things will seem like they’re still up in the air. Slowly, after the euphoria of finally making the decision, doubt and the reality of actually making this work, is slowly creeping in.
That’s normal. Every business goes through this phase. The question now is, how do you overcome the challenges of your online business growth?
What you need to do is take a few steps back and assess what you’ve done so far. What works, what doesn’t work? What needs to be changed? You need to accept that not everything will go according to plan. And you may have to make changes. The hallmark of any successful venture is it’s ability to recognize when change is needed, and to have the willingness to implement those changes.
On top of all that, you should constantly remind yourself why you did this to begin with. If you want to overcome the challenges of a startup online business, then you have to find motivation wherever you can find it. Because if you lose that, then you might as well turn in the towel.
You Have To Be 100% In
This was something you asked yourself at the start. Can I be completely into this venture? Your answer then would have been yes, otherwise, you wouldn’t be here. Now you have to ask yourself that question again. Because you cannot have that answer change! You need to still be 100% committed to what you started.
There cannot be any room for backing down. Because all you’re doing is creating an opening for yourself to fail. You’re creating an excuse for failure. And while the reality of things suggest that some businesses do fail, it should not be because you ran out of steam. Because if that were the case, then this is all a waste of time!
For you to power through whatever hurdles you may encounter, you must know that you are still prepared to go all in on this adventure. So when you finally succeed, you know you did because you gave it your all!
Profit Is Why You’re In This Business
We have been conditioned to think that money is evil, and that we should be motivated by higher ideals. But frankly, people don’t go into business to do good things alone. They go in it for the profit! And that is just a fact of life. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Money, after all, is not inherently evil. It’s the love of money that is evil.
Look, it’s good to come up with something that can help people. In fact, that’s one of the things you need to have in order to succeed. You have to have a product or service that people genuinely feel they can use or need. And you’re offering them something that can benefit them. That’s good!
But remember, you also want to make a profit out of this venture, because you want to be your own boss, you want the freedom that your own business can afford you. None of these reasons are bad. It’s natural to want to earn money so that you can provide for your family’s needs.
The goal is to find a balance. To be able to provide a genuine service, while also being able to make a fair profit. So if you need one motivating factor, let it be this: the profit you stand to make when your business finally takes off! And don’t feel guilty about it.
It’s Your Vision, Ignore People Who Are Negative
Another thing you need to remember is that this is your baby. It’s your vision of your future. You have to be your greatest advocate! You must be your number one salesman. Remember, oftentimes, in the begining, you will be the boss and the employee, you’ll be all the departments rolled into one. It’s your show. Be the star!
Show people that you have the confidence to pull this off. Demonstrate that you’ve got all the bases covered, that you’ve anticipated every need. And for those instances that you have not, show them that you have the ability and the vision to adapt.
Leave the naysayers behind. The last thing you need right at this pivotal moment are people who will give you nothing but negative vibes. You have enough of your own doubts to deal with. You do not need anyone else’s negativity.
It’s one thing to get contructive criticism from people who genuinely want to see you succeed. It’s another to have someone continually tell you that you can’t. At the end of the day, it’s your show, it’s your opinion that matters, it’s your decision that will stick. That is what you need to do when you’re the boss.
Don’t Let Setbacks Derail you
Of course, mistakes will happen. What do you do then? Well, take your lessons and learn from them!
There will be people who will give you advice as to what you may have done wrong, and what you could do to make things right moving forward. Do not discount all criticisms at once. Weigh each one carefully. Some advice might actually help. Then, be big enough to accept fault where fault can be found. But more importantly, have the foresight and the strength to make the necessary changes, then more forawrd!
Understand this. The best teachers are our mistakes. The truest friends are those who present us with the unvanished truth. The businessman who succeeds knows when to stop repeating his mistakes, and have the courage to change course.
So don’t ever fear your mistakes. Learn from them!
Find A Mentor
This may be your baby, but, given that this is your first baby, then it’s safe to assume that you probably need some help. And that’s alright. Admitting that you’ve sometimes gone over your head is a sure sign of maturity and good judgement.

Own It, It’s Your Business
One thing they teach you in school is that the first few years of a baby’s life is the most critical. That’s when they’re most vulnerable. That’s also the phase then they develop their personality, for better or worse. That’s the phase in their development when they pick up either good, or bad habits.
Your business is the same. Your first couple of years are the most critical. That’s when you develop strategies that can either work, or fail. This is also the phase when you need corrective measures the most.
But more importantly, this is the time when you, as the “parent,” need the most support, education, and motivation to succeed. Do not be shy about finding motivation from any source you can find it. And have the vision to partner with someone who can help you understand the things that you do not.
